Two Dead As Unknown Gunmen Attack Police Station in Enugu

 


At least one police officer and one of the residents of Oji local government area of Enugu state have died on the spot after a gunmen attack in the state on Sunday.

The Sunday attack witnessed an hour rapid gun shot at the Inyi Police Divisional Headquarters in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria’s South-east.

Premium Times reported that the gunmen were six in number, who invaded the police facility in two vehicles and killed two persons after opening fire.

It was gathered that the young hoodlums, who were masked also wrecked the whole police facility, a storey building, after killing the two victims.

“I witnessed the attack. The gunmen are just youths. They came in two vehicles, shooting sporadically. We were standing by.”

“They told us that we are not their problem, but police officers and we should not run. They shot two officers and started razing the building,” a witness speaking in Igbo language recounted.

Sources revealed that one of the victims was a police officer, while the other was an unidentified resident, said to have gone to the police station to lodge a complaint.

The police spokesperson in the state, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident when contacted, but declined to comment on the killing of the officer and the unidentified resident in the attack.

Police operatives are on the trail of the masked hoodlums,” he said.

Breaking : Many Feared Dead As Unknown Gunmen Attack Senator Ifeanyi Ubah's Convoy


Gunmen attacked the convoy of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah representing Anambra South Senatorial District.

 

learnt the vehicles were all riddled with bullets even as over six people have been conformed dead including security detail attached to the Senator.

The eyewitness said: “Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy came under attack in Enugwu Ukwu this evening. He was ambushed by heavily armed men who opened fire on his convoy. Some of his aides were killed, including some police officers.

The senator managed to escape as his car was riddled with bullets.

 


“I was driving up to that spot from the link road to the express when some people in a shop shouted at me and asked me to turn back and take another road, which I did”.

Another report by PUNCH quoted sources to have said that the gunmen opened fire on the convoy, and police operatives in the convoy responded and about six policemen were gunned down in the shoot-out.

Although details of the incident were still sketchy, according to various sources, it might be an assassination attempt on the senator.

A source said, “Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was attacked today by some hoodlums in Enugwu Ukwu. It was a calculated attempt. It wasn’t an impromptu action.


The policemen were about four in the convoy and they were attacked.

All their arms were collected. The boys that spearheaded that attack were about nine in numbers.”

The report quoted another source that said six policemen were killed in the attack.Although Senator Ubah could not be reached for confirmation as his line remained unreachable all through. But a close ally of the senator said it was an “attempted assassination on the distinguished Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.


“He survived it but there are casualties. Some policemen in his convoy were killed. I just spoke with him. He’s okay but told me there are casualties.”

Nuella's news reports that the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and said there was an attack on the men of the command at Enugwu-Ukwu, but insisted that the casualty figure were still unknown.

His words, “The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command, CP Echeng Echeng, has today(Sunday), led police operatives to the scene where sporadic shootings took place in Enug-Ukwu.

“Though the details of the incident are still sketchy, operatives are on the ground there as operations are going on and the situation is being monitored. Further details shall be communicated.

Again! Many Injured As Unknown Gunmen Attack Owo, Second Time In 7 Weeks

 

Residents Ondo state have been thrown into panic as unknown gunmen attack the ancient town again.

This is coming barely seven weeks after terrorists attacked worshippers at Owo, in Ondo state.

Many people were said to have been injured in the attack which took place Wednesday evening, at Folahami Junction, where a construction company called Craneburg Construction Company was located.

It was reported that the gunmen opened fire on those at the site.

Further report also claimed that some explosives devices were also used during the attack.

However, the casualty figure was yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report but many people were said to be injured in the attack.
