The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Labour party candidate, Thaddeus Attah, the winner of the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
Popular award-winning Nigerian artiste Olubankole ‘Banky W’ Wellington has joined the Peoples Democratic Party to contest for House of Representatives seat in the 2023 general election.
Banky W had in 2019 contested for the same position under the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) and lost.
Disclosing the reason he joined the PDP, Banky W said he was no longer content to stand by the sidelines but “must get into the system to fix it”.
“I would like to announce that I will once again be answering the call to serve by attempting to secure a ticket to represent Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” announced Banky W in a broadcast posted on his Twitter page.
He emphasised on the need to infiltrate major existing political parties such as the PDP to build a better Nigeria for all citizens.
Some may not understand or agree with my decision to run, or my choice of platform. But I’ve learnt that we must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we hope that it should be,” disclosed the musician turned politician.
Last week, Nigerian artistes, Oristefemi and Banky W married the love of their lives on the same day, in Lagos and South Africa respectively.
Following the buzz, Banky W received from his wedding to Adesua Etomi, which started after their traditional marriage in Lagos, before their white wedding, in Cape Town, South Africa, Oristefemi who had his in Lagos, has spoken on fans comparison of his special day to that of his fellow singer.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the self-acclaimed music Taliban slammed the comparison, stating that his wedding to Nabila Fash was classy and Banky’s wedding didn't outshine his, as many insinuated on social media.
In his words, the 'Double Wahala' singer said:
“Initially, I did not notice that people were comparing my wedding with Banky W’s but later, after the whole ceremony, I noticed it. I did not even know that Banky was getting married on the same day that I did. But to be truthful, I knew that he had a ceremony about a week ago so I thought that was his wedding.
I have no issues with both of us getting married on the same day, if anything; it was more fun because like they say, the more the merrier. I was the one that got married and I am not even doing any form of comparison. All I wanted was to have a classy wedding and I got that at the end of the day.
“My wedding was well attended by highly respected people in the society. I don’t see any comparison because Banky even had his own in South Africa while mine was in Nigeria.
“Banky’s wedding did not outshine mine. Although I did not follow what was happening on the social media, I was told that my wedding trended on Twitter. I feel it was more fun for us that we got married on the same day and we were keeping people busy on the Internet. The Internet almost went crazy for both weddings. I don’t see any problem with it. Entertainers don’t see such as a competition but it is the fans that always start such comparison. All I know is that both weddings went well, they were classy and it would go down in history as one of the most talked about weddings of 2017. I congratulate Banky W on his wedding and wish him and his bride blessings,” he said.
Awwwwww... No doubt that the news of their engagement has set the internet agog as lots of celebrities have been wishing them well.
