Oluwo Of Iwoland Urge Yoruba Traditional Rulers, Elders To Visit Buhari To Seek Sunday Igboho’s Release

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi has urged traditional rulers and elder statesmen in the South-West to plead with President Muhammadu Buhari, for the release of Yoruba secessionist leader, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho.

The paramount ruler stated that granting Igboho freedom without any condition will solidify the unity of Nigeria.

The Osun State monarch disclosed this in a statement made available to SaharaReporters on Sunday.

The Yoruba separatist leader, Igboho was arrested in July at an airport in the neighbouring Benin Republic, after being declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Nigeria.

He has since been incarcerated by the Beninese authorities despite moves by some prominent Yoruba figures to facilitate his freedom.

Akanbi’s call might have been inspired by the recent call by Igbo leaders during their visit to Buhari in Aso Villa, for the unconditional release of separatist agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, who is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Kanu is in the custody of the DSS as he is being tried for terrorism-related offences.

The monarch said, “The controversies surrounding the continuous detention of Sunday Igboho can be addressed should the Yoruba monarchs, elders and stakeholders be ready to take a walk to President Muhammed Buhari. Sunday Igboho is our son, he has made some mistakes which are realizable on the agitation for Yoruba nation.

“The approach is jeopardizing the intention. I urge stakeholders in Yoruba affairs to harmonize their interests, come together and approach the country’s leaders for the release of embattled Igboho.

“Granting such request will entrench the unity of Nigeria and foster a harmonious understanding. Only the federal government has the exclusive charisma to liberate the face of Yoruba nation agitator at this critical time. Our son must be rescued. Releasing Igboho without recourse to legal lingering litigation will earn the government credit. It is a credit of maturity and unity.”

Let Us All Work Towards Nnamdi Kanu's Freedom, If Anything Happens To Him In Custody, There Will Be More Trouble – Fr Mbaka

Warning from the Spiritual director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Fr. Ejike Mbaka that there will be more trouble in the country if the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, dies in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Catholic priest made this known while calling on the congregation to pray for the release of Nnamdi Kanu on Sunday November 14.

He also commended IPOB for calling off its Monday sit-at-home exercise, saying the danger of the order was becoming a problem instead of a solution.

Commending IPOB, Mbaka said, ”The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, the hero, Nnamdi Kanu, is expressing his empathy with the people of the Southeast over what they are passing through. He came to know that Igbos are suffering because of him. And he would not wish that suffering to continue. Therefore, nobody should stop anybody from going to his or her business any Monday.

“All of us should keep praying for his (Kanu) release, and work towards his freedom because if he dies inside that place, it will cause more trouble. If he comes out, he will come out as a hero.

”We don’t want him to die, because it is not Nnamdi Kanu’s issue, it is the issue that concerns the people that are suffering. Nnamdi is not asking the government to do anything for him; he is speaking for the Igbo people.

And we that are affected and he is speaking on their behalf should do everything possible to see that it is well with him.

“Many were saying they saw me at Abuja some days ago, yes. My own is if I am with you, I am with you. I will not sit here to tell you why I am in Abuja but whatever will make my people to be emancipated I will do it. There are people working to see that Nnamdi Kanu is released and it’s not by sitting. at home that he will be released.

”Canceling sit-at-home does not mean that it is over, the poor masses are suffering. Most of the rich people don’t have business over here, we are punishing our selves. We thank the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, may God bless him.”

Protesters Plead With Ooni, Gani Adams, Oba's To Help Secure Sunday Igboho's Release

The Yoruba Nation agitators have stormed the residence of Yoruba agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho to begin a protest demanding his release, following his arrest by security operatives in Benin Republic.

The protesters called on all the Yoruba monarchs and leaders to show total support for Igboho and ensure that he was not extradited to Nigeria.

According to them, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adams, must help to secure Igboho’s release as his extradition would cause trouble for Yoruba people in Nigeria.

One of the protesters said, “Igboho is not a criminal, why have they declared him wanted? No one can point to a situation where Igboho stole, raped or killed anyone.

“As at yesterday, Sheikh Gumi shared a video of him offering the Muslim prayer. The government knows where he is; yet he has not been arrested. Why have they now declared Igboho wanted? Release him now.”

Another protester said, “Let the government not think that now that Igboho has been arrested, the agitations will stop. No, he is not the only one. We, the agitators are many. Igboho is not alone.

”Gani Adams, let your position be meaningful. Don’t let us be put to shame as you are the Aare Ona Kankafo. You cannot say you are not aware that Igboho is trying to save the Yoruba.

“Ooni, help us save Igboho. All our kings, help us, support us. We are suffering, we cannot sleep; we find it difficult to feed.

”Igboho is rich and he has helped people; why have they declared him wanted? Since we started the protest, there has never been a time we killed anyone. Igboho has never killed anyone since the protest. He has always asked us to free anyone we capture. Benin Republic, do not extradite Igboho to Nigeria.”

A female protester said the arrest of Igboho was simply a call to war, as she warned that the activist be released from detention immediately. She expressed fear that his extradition to Nigeria would lead to Igboho’s death.

The agitators had also last week protested against the raid of Igboho’s residence by operatives of the Department of State Services and demanded release of the 12 aides arrested in Igboho’s house.
