Trouble Looms As Governor Makinde Dumps Atiku, Drum Support For Tinubu, Says “I Stand With South-West Presidential Candidate”

There seems to be trouble in the People Democrats Party (PDP) as Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has shown support for South-west presidential candidate.

The governor on Sunday affirmed his support for the position of the pan-Yoruba organisation, Afenifere, on the endorsement of Tinubu, although another faction of the group led by Chief Ayo Adebanjo earlier supported Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Makinde, represented by his Deputy, Bayo Lawal, who spoke in Yoruba made this known in Akure, Ondo State at the welcoming occasion of Tinubu by the leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and other Yoruba elders.

Tinubu visited the organisation to unveil his action plans for the country as documented in his 80-page campaign manifesto.

Lawal said, “Since he (Makinde) became governor, he doesn’t joke with Yoruba matters. There is no time that father would call him that he would fail to respond.

“Whenever there is an event, either organised by Afenifere or any other Yoruba group, Governor Makinde will always be supportive. Though we are not of the same political affiliation, we are bound by ethnicity. Yoruba land, whatever it is you are doing, he (Makinde) is in support.”

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike earlier endorsed the governorship candidate of the APC in Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Makinde, Wike and three other governors of the PDP; Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Samuel Ortom (Benue) have been calling for the resignation of the national chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, as a condition to support the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

These developments are said to be causing problems among some leaders of the PDP ahead of the election.

A source at the party’s secretariat noted that “no party man will be happy with the situation of things. If you are aggrieved with Atiku Abubakar, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, are you also aggrieved with the Lagos State chapter of the party?”

MASSOB’s Uwazuruike Drum Support For Yahaya Bello 2023 Preesidency Ambition

Ralph Uwazuruike, leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) led youths in a solidarity march in Owerri, Imo, in support of the 2023 presidential bid of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi.

Mr Uwazuruike, who also said he does not believe in a president of Igbo extraction, said the contest should be thrown open.

The MASSOB leader stated this when Mr Bello, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), visited him in Owerri, Imo

The youths, who started the procession from the MASSOB leader’s house in Owerri, marched through the streets, carrying different placards, with inscriptions such as “Power to the Youths, Support Yahaya Bello”, and “Yahaya Bello for the Youths”, among others.

According to the youths, Mr Bello was the right fit for the position of president, and the aspirant with the solution to Nigeria’s political quagmire.

Mr Uwazuruike advised Nigerians and political parties to shun zoning, stating that his group would support Mr Bello to become the next president of Nigeria.

“All Nigerians should rally round the youthful governor. We are supporting Bello for this and no one else. That he has the capacity to solve the problem of insecurity and a host of others facing the nation is not in doubt.

“This is a crucial time in the history of the country. We must give youths a chance, especially one that has demonstrated uncommon capacity, in the person of Yahaya Bello,” the MASSOB leader said.

Mr Uwazuruike, who is also the founder of Biafran Independent Movement (BIM), said if Nigeria’s sovereignty must be upheld, the idea of Igbo president should be discarded.

“I don’t believe in the idea of a zoning system or Igbo president because zoning means sectionalism.

“If we want to talk about Nigeria, we must throw the presidential contest open but if you throw it open, it must be for the youths not elders, because the elders have failed us.

Speaking, Mr Bello expressed gratitude over the reception given to him by the members of MASSOB/BIM who welcomed him to the state.
