The command's spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed that on January 2, 2025, Mrs. Okolie Joy, the suspect’s mother, filed a complaint after her daughter left home on December 30, 2024, and failed to return.

Mrs Okolie revealed that the following day, she received a distressing phone call claiming her daughter had been abducted, with the alleged kidnappers demanding a ransom of N2 million for her release.

Acting on the complaint, police operatives launched an investigation, which led to the discovery that Princess had faked her abduction in collaboration with her boyfriend.

"Upon the arrest of the suspect, he stated that he was not an actual kidnapper but was playing the script of his girlfriend Princess Okolie,” he said.

Edafe said the girl was arrested, and she said that she faked her kidnap so that they could get money from her parents.

"Both suspects are in custody, the ransom money recovered and the investigation is ongoing.

"The Commissioner of Police urges parents and guardians to take the upbringing of their children seriously and in the ways of God so that when they grow up, they won’t be a problem to their parents and society,” Edafe added.

LAWMA Boss, Ibrahim Odumboni, Reportedly Sold Multi-million Naira Vehicles As Scrap – Report

Ibrahim Odumboni, the acting managing director of the the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has been accused of allegedly flouting procurement law and selling multi-million naira vehicles of the Authority as scrap, PREMIUM TIMES reported.

When Ibrahim Odumboni was appointed acting managing director (MD) of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) in May 2020, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was confident he was the perfect fit for the job.

In a statement, Mr Sanwo-Olu said the former banker would bring his wealth of experience as a former LAWMA executive director in charge of business development to revitalise the often-troubled agency.

Mr Odumboni replaced Muyiwa Gbadegesin, who was removed for infractions including allegations of misappropriation of funds.

However, the tenure of the 40-year-old Mr Odumboni has also now become controversial, with some officials querying his management of the agency’s assets.

In one instance, Mr Odumboni was queried by the state’s commissioner for environment for selling at least 55 mostly serviceable heavy-duty vehicles and a D9 bulldozer as scraps without following due process, and at a cost the commissioner described as ‘alarmingly undervalued.’

Between March 4 and 6, 2021, Mr Odumboni directed the disposal of 22 trucks, one engine and a D-9 bulldozer, located at LAWMA’s depot in Agege and Ikeja, documents seen by PREMIUM TIMES revealed.

LAWMA staffers aware of the sale said many of the vehicles were still serviceable at the time they were sold as scrap. The vehicles were sold to Blackcann Limited, a scrap metal company.

LAWMA officials knowledgeable about the transfer of the vehicles to Blackcann Limited told PREMIUM TIMES the vehicles were moved from the depots at night in what they said appeared a move to evade questions about their destination from inquisitive officials.

The vehicles comprised four Man Diesel compactors, 10 Mercedes Benz compactors, four Mack compactors, one Hof compactor and two Daf compactors, from the Agege Transfer Loading Station (TLS). The engine scrap was also stationed at the Agege TLS. Others were a bulk mover and M29 compactor from the Ikeja depot. The D-9 bulldozer was moved from the Solous depot in the Alimosho area of the state.

In a memo authorising Blackcann Limited to take possession of the vehicles, Mr Odumboni claimed they were being removed from the depot for “assembling”.

“I hereby authorised Messrs Blackcann Limited to move all scrap metal and beyond Economic Economic Repair (BER) trucks at the depot to Lagos Waste Management Authority facility at Ikorodu for assembling,” Mr Odumboni stated in the memo dated March 4, 2021.

However, PREMIUM TIMES obtained release vouchers signed at the Agege depot before the vehicles were released, which tell a different story. The vouchers indicate that the vehicles were taken by LAWMA’s Engineering Department to either “Ikorodu Road,” or “Owode Onirin”, a popular scrap metal market along Ikorodu Road.

Also, contrary to the claim in the memo that the vehicles were taken from the depots for assembling, the release vouchers stated that they were taken for “safekeeping”.

A LAWMA official who asked not to be named for fear of being victimised pointed out further inconsistencies in the MD’s memo.

“LAWMA does not have any facility in Ikorodu,” the official said. There are only two sites remotely associated with LAWMA in the town, one is a dumpsite at Ewu-Elepe, the other place is a moribund Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project between Earthcare, a compost fertiliser manufacturer and LAWMA at Odoguyan along Shagamu Road.”

“It was a blatant lie to even say the vehicles were being taken for assembling. What does he mean by that? Are the vehicles going to be put together to manufacture new ones? In fact, our engineering department is stationed at our head office in Ijora, and repairs of vehicles are either done at our depots or at Ijora,” the source added.

The official claimed that each of the compactors was worth at least N2 million and the D-9 bulldozer was worth at least N20 million when they were sold.

When reached for comment about the disposal of the vehicles, Peter Benjamin-Black, the CEO of Blackcann Limited, declined to comment. During a telephone interview, he told this reporter to direct the questions to LAWMA.

Mr. Odumboni may have flouted the state’s procurement law in the manner he disposed the vehicles.

Section 80 (2) of the Lagos State Public Procurement Law states that “the open competitive bidding shall be the primary source of receiving offers for the purchase of any public property offered for sale”

The law defines Open Competitive Bidding as ”the solicitation of bids from domestic contractors and suppliers registered or incorporated to carry on business under Nigerian Law.”

Subsection (3) of Section 80 further empowers a Parastatal Tender Board shall issue regulations, detailing operational principles and organizational modalities to be adopted by the procuring entities engaged in the disposal of public property with the approval of the governor.

Section 86 stipulates the punishment for an officer of the state found to have contravened any provision of the law. It said such an official “commits an offence and is liable upon conviction to summary dismissal from the government service and between five and 10 years imprisonment without the option of fine.”

The Second Controversial Sale

The sale of the vehicles did not go down well with some LAWMA officials. But while the murmurs about the first deal was yet to abate, Mr Odumboni initiated the sale of another 34 vehicles, which he claimed were unserviceable.

This time, however, he sought official approval to dispose of the vehicles. But even the disposal of this set of vehicles was tainted with the allegation that the vehicles were grossly undervalued.

It was learnt that several of the vehicles were procured about three years ago, during the era of Visionscape, a controversial waste management company backed by the administration of the immediate past governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode.

PREMIUM TIMES obtained details of the amount for which some of the vehicles were sold: Eight damaged vehicles were sold to Olaseni Danzaki Limited. They include three Renault 5CBM compactors for N750,000, a Mantiga trailer head for N1.5 million, a Mantiga compactor for N800,000, a Mantiga truck head for N1.1 million, a Sino Truck for N1.5 million, and an MT-013 Fuel tanker for N1 million.

Six Actros Mercedes Benz trucks were sold for N900,000 each to Defroser Global Enterprises. The company also bought another set of four Actros Mercedes Benz trucks for N800,000 each and a Daf towing vehicle for N400,000.

Two Man Diesel trucks were sold to Collect-A-Can for N800,000 each, another set of seven Man Diesel trucks for N750,000 each, another truck for N400,000 and a trailer back for N300,000.

The vehicles were sold around the last week of April 2021.

The Query

Vexed by the irregularities he suspected characterised the sale of the vehicles and acting on complaints from some LAWMA officials, Tunji Bello, the commissioner in charge of the Ministry for Environment, the supervising ministry of LAWMA, on May 5, 2021, officially demanded explanation from Mr Odumboni about the deals.

The query was titled: “Re: Alleged Boarding of Vehicles and Equipment belonging to LAWMA without Due Diligence,” and had the serial number: MOEWR/HC/C/2019/VOL.1/67.

“I write to inform you that there are allegations that you directed managers of the Authority’s facilities to release several (about 30) heavy-duty vehicles (compactors, tipper heads etc) and a D-9 V-track Caterpillar bulldozer for disposer without consultation with or notification of the management and the vehicles were moved out in the dead of the night to the popular scrap metal market in Lagos (Owode Onirin).

“Furthermore, it has also been alleged that you officially initiated further boarding of an additional set of 32 vehicles, a considerable number of which were only recently purchased, and all of which were alarmingly undervalued.”

He directed Mr Odumboni to respond within five days of getting the query.

PREMIUM TIMES could not confirm if Mr Odumboni responded to the query. Mr Bello did not respond to questions asking him if Mr Odumboni responded to the query and what his response was.

It also remains unclear if any disciplinary action was taken against the LAWMA boss for the suspected infractions.

Odumboni Keeps mum

Odumboni did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES inquiries on the allegations.

Nigeria Is No Longer Safe For Me, Some Strange People After My Life - Olarewaju Akinyele Laments

Ogun State young and rising politician, Olarewaju Akinyele has lament the constant threat and harassment to his life from unknown persons, over his view on happenings in the country.

Akinyele who has been running from pillar to post, in safety for his life, said his freedom to living has been under serious threat, after he publicly criticized Buhari's led administration on the way it's handled popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho.

In his words, "I have been in an active critic of anti-human policies since I have grown as an adult. It’s something I really frown at as I can't wrap my head around how a politician seeking public office goes about smiling and waving hands to a people whose votes are needed and shortly after his ascension mutates completely to a being possessed by perverse forces ultimately making him evil." He Continued.

"Freedom of speech and expression is a fundamental right in democracy but I have experienced animalistic confrontations by simply wanting to express this right. The government of the APC has long failed its litmus test, and there is no gain saying that it has an unredeemable image as of present, especially with the person of General Muhammadu Buhari as the President."

Narrating the events of what happened, "Sometimes in February of 2021, I wrote a piece of how the emergence of Sunday Igboho is inevitable especially with the lackadaisical attitude of government towards marauders that hide in the covers of vegetation to perpetuate evil. Men who value cattles more than the radiant innocence of a toddler. A clan who put anyone of any race or kind to the sword once they come between them and their livestock. I understand that properties must be protected by every means but the unjust cutting or life by these AK-47 grazers in another man’s settlement is a thing of concern and the preferential treatment of these unidentified men by the Nigerian government will be met with the harshest of criticism even in the pit of hell."

"If a government is docile towards the protection of lives and properties of a region in Nigeria, I think we all share the same responsibility under the command of God to be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth and this we must do this by any means necessary as a people even if it requires taking laws into our own hands.

My stance is without mincing words, I still stand on this till this day and will never waver unless the government restore the confidence of oneness into the polity. This stance of mine however has attracted pests, strange voices and unwarranted visits into my privacy."

"Since February 8, 2021 I have received strange calls asking me where I am at the moment from out of the blue. Calls that ring my phone without speaking for minutes and cuts off. I and my PA, Ogunrinde Olasoji David can barely walk the streets without feeling someone is somewhere stalking us.

Many times on my twitter page, I have been messaged by strangers who barely know me sending me direct messages asking where I am at the moment or where do I live without any prior conversations. Some of them having Federal government ties according to their bio.

I, Akinyele Olanrewaju .Q. and my associates have evaluated what it takes to criticize the Nigerian government and we know the capabilities of Nigerian governments magic from history, this is no new thing to us. But to constantly have people calling my phone and not speaking or some will speak and ask me to report to the office of the DSS closest to me is all time low.

I don’t feel safe anymore in a country where I was born and I feel that the government of the day will not stop at silencing anyone or group of people with a contrary view to their approach of governance." He Laments.

I Started Robbery At Age 7 With Intentions To Be Like Shino Rambo, Oyenusi - Suspect Confesses

Ondo state police have arrested and paraded a 27-year-old armed robber, Gbenga Kikiowo, who said his dream was to be an international armed robber like Ishola Oyenusi and Shina Rambo.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, who paraded the suspect before newsmen, said Kikiowo and one Aladeloye Tope aged 25, were arrested at Oke-Aro, Akure metropolis during a robbery incident.

When interrogated, Kikiowo said he is an ex-convict and went back to robbery after he couldn't find a job when he left prison.

“I started committing crime since I was seven years old. I don’t have any genuine reason to what led me to crime because I was born into a rich family.

I suddenly started stealing from my parent, my parent believes in traditional religion that is what they practice, so the more they use spiritual solution to my criminal act, the more I stole and that led me to Ghana. From there, I brought my gang to Nigeria and we were arrested during an operation in 2015 and remained in the Olokuta Prison in Akure.

My father died in 2015, so there was nobody to help me because they believed I’m a criminal. I then saw crime as a perfect way for me to survive after my father’s death and when there was no one to cater to me.

My father’s name was Kikiowo Ayodele. He married six wives and gave birth to 24 children. He was a native of lgbara Oke, in Ondo State, he is well known; a retired soldier and a farmer.

I once followed a man to a Divisional Police Station in Akure to bail a motorcycle, the motorcycle was released in a way that surprised me, the man told them his motorcycle was arrested so they asked him the documents of the motorcycle and he gave them only N1,500 and it was released to him even without the knowledge of those officers who collected the motorcycle.

So, I started using that technique and it worked for me. Once I discovered that those on morning duty had left, I will go there and point at any new and neat motorcycle, give them N1,500 and it will be given to me and I will disappear.

I was arrested in 2011, the woman Judge who presided over my case liked me and took me to the welfare so that they could encourage me with the word of God but I escaped in 2012 and got involved in another case involving the stealing of motorcycles at A-Division. I was released on the 2nd of February, 2019.

“During the last time I was in prison, I joined the prisoners’ fellowship that preach the word of God from there, I listened to their preaching and I got some assistance from them.''

Speaking further, he said

''I later had a dream, where I saw Daddy Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, praying for me, so, not long, I was discharged and acquitted. Upon my return, I went to Redeem Christian Church in Akure and gave a testimony that I had changed after spending four years in prison

“They took me to the Redemption Camp where they planned to take me to a rehabilitation centre. But that’s not what I needed, what I wanted was to find a job that will be fetching me money but they were saying I was into drugs and must first be rehabilitated. So, l decide to leave after six month because that was not what I needed.

From there, I stole their pastor’s tricycle, also known as ‘Keke Maruwa and escaped to Ile- Ife. He ask me to return it but I said no, and I decided to sell the tricycle but was arrested.

After some months I called the Pastor to come and take his tricycle because it was no longer useful to me. Throughout my life, I have never achieved any good thing but sorrow. The gun the police arrested me with was my last hope. I had decided to leave all this local crime to go international. That was why I took the risk to look for a gun.

I wanted to become an international armed robber like Ishola Oyenusi, Shina Rambo and Mufu Olosha Oko because I wanted my name to reign. I believed that it was through crime that I can be popular.

If not for the gun, there was no way they could have arrested me. After my father’s death, I heard about Ghana, upon getting there, I found my colleagues and we started highway robbery and after the operation, they found me competent and from there we started operation.

“Highway robbery is the best we can do in Ghana we can’t do any other operation, from there I invited them to Nigeria after convincing them that I have the key point of Nigeria that we can operate successfully.

ln Nigeria, we went for first, second operations and the third one, I was arrested and I landed in prison. I urge the government to tamper justice with mercy and help me. I have decided to stop crime because I have not gained anything from it.''
