Nigeria Is Not A Poor Country – First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu

First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has said that Nigeria should not be described as a poor country.

The First Lady, in a Christmas message released after holding a Christmas party for the children of Nana Berry Orphanage in Abuja, said 2024 would be glorious for Nigerians. She advised parents to continue to give hope to their wards.

The statement read;

“As we go into year 2024, our message should be how to transform the lives of the young ones. Whoever we are, we should stop talking about poverty in front of our children, we are not a poor nation, the wealthy ones should also take care of the poor ones and make them wealthy, that is all it takes.

“We have taken the issue of poverty out of context and it is really polluting the hearts of the young ones, but we have to give them hope and show them the life that is positive. We are entering a glorious year and those who believe that it is going to be glorious will enjoy it.

“Parents are supposed to tell the children Christmas stories; that was what we all grew up with. For this year’s Christmas, we have decided to change the trajectory of what Christmas represents in the State House. For us in this dispensation, I think we have to adopt a home per year; next year, another orphanage home would come so that the children can have a sense of well-being and to give them a sense of belonging.

“They are all Nigerians. As you can see, they all have dreams like every one of us, bringing them here is for them to know that nothing is impossible. They too can become the persons God will put in place of power like this.

“This year’s Christmas celebration is also to remind them about the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, and how the love of Christ made him to lay down his life for mankind. Also, that is what we have to do as a nation, to continue to make the necessary sacrifices for a lot of people to benefit; it is not about us but for generations that are coming after us. We have to give them good foundation because we believe their lives will be better than ours.”

My Husband Didn’t Close Aso Rock Chapel But He’s Yet To Appoint Chaplain – First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu Says

The Office of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has stated that President Bola Tinubu is yet to appoint a Chaplain for the Aso Villa Chapel, after the exit of the last Chaplain.

Oluremi in a statement on Monday said President Tinubu reserved the right to appoint a chaplain, while debunking claims on social media platforms that the Aso Villa Chapel had been closed down.

“Our attention has been drawn to a story on social media about the purported closure of the Aso Rock Chapel by the first lady; we wish to state categorically that this is a fabrication and a false representation of the true situation.

“The first lady at no time gave such directive that the chapel be shut nor asked for the keys to be handed over to her.

“Presently, there are weekly fellowships going on at the chapel including midweek fellowship on Tuesdays, however, Mr President is yet to appoint a Chaplain for the chapel after the exit of the last Chaplain as he only reserves the right to appoint a chaplain.”

Nigerians Expected Too Much From My Husband’s Government – First Lady, Aisha Says

Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has said Nigerians expected too much from the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Aisha said this in an exclusive interview done by BBC Pidgin, which was published on Friday.

Aisha Buhari, who apologised to Nigerians, said her reason for doing so is because the Buhari-led administration might have not performed to the full satisfaction of Nigerians.

In the interview, the First Lady said Nigerians expected so much from Buhari’s government and that it was possible that the government fell short of the people’s expectations, hence, her apologies.

She said, “The expectation on us was too high. People were expecting so much from us, and maybe after seven years, we haven’t done to their expectations. Only God knows what is in somebody’s mind or as a human being, you cannot say that you are right or we have done what we should do.

“The government has really tried. The administration has done its best but maybe it is still not the best for others. To them, they have done their best, only God knows, so we must apologize to them, to Nigerians; whether we have made up their expectations or not.”

The President’s wife said she doesn’t know the particular area her husband’s government could have done better as her office is just like a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

“I’m not into government. My own is to support them either in health or education. I don’t go into details of what they are doing,” she said.

Asked if she thinks that APC may not win the presidential seat in the 2023 general elections, the First Lady said, “Why did you ask that kind of question? Of course, we will continue. Of course, APC will win by the grace of God.”

Asked what she would be remembered for as the First Lady of Nigeria, she said, “Service to humanity. We give some stationaries, school materials and during our campaign, we extracted a few points from the party manifesto and capitalised on it and campaigned on it and that is school feeding; giving hot meals to primary and secondary school students.

“That one will encourage them to remain in school. It was a big challenge for us because, by the time my husband came into power, there were no resources for that but I insisted that we campaigned for it and it must be done.”

On the eve of Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Day Celebration, Aisha while speaking during a Special Juma’at prayer and Public Lecture, also apologised to Nigerians over the harsh economic realities and insecurity experienced under the Buhari-led government.

She said, “The regime might not have been a perfect one, but I want to seize this opportunity to seek forgiveness from the Ulamas and Nigerians in general. We all need to work together to achieve a better Nigeria.”
