Breaking: Ondo State Governor, Akeredolu Dies After Prolonged Illness

A family source revealed on Wednesday that Akeredolu died in Lagos.

We learnt that he was managed by State House doctors up to his death because they could not fly him abroad.

Akeredolu is dead; he died in Lagos, the source said.

''They were looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week.

He was 67 years old.

The ailing governor returned to Nigeria in September following a three-month medical leave in Germany and only recently proceeded on another one after he was directed by President Bola Tinubu to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

His deputy, Aiyedatiwa has been standing in as Acting Governor.

Following his return to Nigeria in September, Akeredolu stayed in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital and tried to govern his state from there, leading to public outrage.

On July 9, Akeredolu’s wife, Betty announced the suspension of activities lined up to celebrate her 70th birthday.

The Ondo first lady announced the suspension of the activities in Twitter posts after questions were raised over plans to have a fanfare despite her husband’s ill health.

“Hello Family and Friends. This is to inform you that all activities lined up to mark my 70th birthday are hereby suspended till further notice due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this development.”

“Nevertheless, be assured that I will be celebrated in style upon my return. Thank you for your understanding. I remain Arabinrin a.k.a Ada Owere I,” she tweeted.

A news platform exclusively reported in January that Akeredolu was treating leukemia.

“The governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has leukemia, he is really down,” one of the sources in the Alagbaka Government House revealed at that time.

Leukemia is a cancer of the blood caused by a rise in the number of white blood cells in the body.

For sufferers, the white blood cells crowd out the red blood cells and platelets needed by the body to stay healthy.

White blood cells are potent infection fighters which grow and divide in an orderly way, as the body needs them. But in people with leukemia, the bone marrow produces an excessive amount of abnormal white blood cells, which don’t function properly.

It is a cancer of blood-forming tissues that hinders the body’s ability to fight infections.

The types that exist include acute lymphoblastic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Treatment for leukemia can be complex depending on the type of leukemia and other factors.

However, some strategies and resources can help make treatment successful.

According to WebMD Cancer Center, its symptoms may include weakness or fatigue, bruising or bleeding easily, fever or chills, infections that are severe or keep coming back, and pain in your bones or joints.

Others may include headaches, vomiting, seizures, weight loss, night sweats, shortness of breath, and swollen lymph nodes or organs like the spleen.

Emefiele’s Naira Policy Has Dropped Out APC Rating Drastically – Ondo State Governor, Akeredolu Lament

The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has knocked the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, saying he (Emefiele) planned to disrupt the 2023 general elections.

Governor Akeredolu said Emefiele is not fit to head the apex bank.

Akeredolu explained that the CBN governor ought to have been booted from office when he showed interest in contesting for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

This was made known by the governor while receiving members of the Youth Directorate of the Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, of the APC led by Seyi Tinubu.

The governor who affirmed that the rating of the APC drastically dropped with the naira and fuel shortages in the country, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to direct Emefiele to reverse the naira redesign policy now, adding that the new and old notes should be allowed to co-exist.

He said despite an existing court injunction, the old notes seem to have ceased to be legal tender in the country.

“We have a problem we are facing in this country today. Our rating as a party is not that favourable. Let’s not deceive ourselves. Must it be now that we will have this financial policy?

“Okada, taxis, banks are not taking old notes again. There is an injunction, and everyone is behaving like there is no injunction,” he said.

God Has Endorsed Tinubu’s 2023 Presidency, It’s Our Time – Ondo State Governor, Akeredolu Says

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu says there is a divine backing of APC presidential standard bearer Bola Tinubu’s ambition ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The governor disclosed this on Sunday at the Agape International Church 34th Annual Convention in Akure. The theme of the convention was ‘This is my time’.

He emphasised that the people had always lived together in harmony despite their religious differences in the past.

“What we believe and stand by is that since we started this republic in 1999, we have been rotating power from North to South, and for us, by that rotation, this is the time of South,” the Ondo governor declared and insisted power should shift to the South, parroting Mr Tinubu’s now infamous ’emi lokan’ outburst.

“This is our time, and nobody is going to take it. ‘Awa lokan’; wonderful theme for this time. When the theme was chosen, I’m sure nobody was thinking about ‘Emi lokan’ or anything,” Mr Akeredolu noted. “But it is just by coincidence. God has spoken through Agape that this is our time. I thank you, Agape.”

“We have (a) very interesting coincidence here. Today, we have Her Excellency Omolewa, wife of (the) former governor of Kwara, here. I have known her to be a true Christian, (a) very true one, leading the altar in her home, in a home where the husband is also a true Muslim,” said the governor during the service.

Mr Tinubu and his running mate, Kassim Shettima, are Muslims, making many Nigerians, including APC chieftains, condemn the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“There are many people here that have both Muslims and Christians as family members, and there is no quarrel. Religion should not bring quarrels among us, and that is where we stand,” Mr Akeredolu told the congregants.

The governor commended the church leadership for complying with the government’s directives on installing CCTV cameras in worship centres and other public places.
