Kano Government Break Silence On Arrest Of Governor Ganduje’s Wife By EFCC

The Kano State Government has reacted to reports that Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s wife, Prof. Hafsat Ganduje, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), saying it was a mere speculation being sponsored by mischief-makers.

According to a statement, the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, expressed regret over the rumours, adding that the content of the unfounded story could not be traced to any credible source such as the purported arresting agency, the EFCC.

He stated that unfortunately, the fake story is being peddled on social media platforms without confirmation from either the government or the anti-graft agency.

Garba said “the governor’s wife has not been arrested or detained and she is presently discharging her responsibilities.”

The commissioner called on the good people of the state to disregard the rumours, urging them to remain calm

EFCC Arrest Governor Ganduje’s Wife, Hafsat

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC has arrested wife of Kano state governor, Hafsat Ganduje.

Mrs Hafsat Ganduje, was arrested by EFCC over a bribery and land fraud case reported by one of her son.

The arrest comes weeks after her failure to honour the anti-graft agency’s invitation.

Mrs Ganduje had earlier been invited to report to the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters on September 13, but she did not appear and the EFCC then threatened to arrest her.

However, she travelled to the UK at the time to attend the graduation ceremony of her son.

Investigators are questioning Mrs Ganduje over allegations relating to land fraud in a petition by her own son, Abdualzeez Ganduje.

A person, who has the knowledge of the arrest but asked not to be identified, said “she was arrested this (Monday) evening.”

Mrs Ganduje was still at EFCC headquarters as of 6a.m. on Monday, this newspaper learnt.

Abdulazeez Ganduje had dragged his mum, Hafsat Ganduje, to the EFCC, sources familiar with the matter said, suggesting a pattern of corruptly using family access to power for private enrichment.
