A High court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos has ordered kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans, to refund the sum of €233,000 ransom he collected from one of his victims, Chief Donatus Dunu.

Justice Olukayode Ogunjobi on Wednesday, February 15, also ordered the convicted kidnapper to pay N50 million as general dameges in favour of the Claimant.

Evans abducted Dunu, who is a pharmacist, on February 14, 2017. Duru later escaped from captivity after the convicted kidnapper took €233,000 from his family.

Upon his escape, Dunu, who is the CEO of Maydon Pharmaceutical Company, filed a suit demanding the return of the sum of £223,000 he paid as ransom while in the custody of the kidnap kingpin. He also demanded the sum of N50 million as damages.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Ogunjobi held, “I accept the unchallenged and uncontroverted evidence of the Claimant and his witnesses. The evidence support the reliefs sought by the Claimant.

Consequently, the Claimant is entitled to be paid or repaid and or recover from the Defendant, the sum of €233,000 ransom coercively paid by the Claimant to Defendant when the Defendant kidnapped the Claimant in the year 2017 and held the Claimant hostage for months.

The sum of N50million is awarded as general damages in favour of the Claimant against the Defendant.

Post judgment interest is awarded on the said sum of €233,000 at the rate of 10% per annum from judgment i.e. 14th of February, 2023 until final liquidation.

The adjudged said sum of €233,000 and N50,000,000 is hereby ordered to be paid or recovered from the Assets of the Defendant. This is the Judgment of the Court.”

The court however refused the claim for prejudgement interest of 40 percent per annum on the €233,000.

Photo! Detective Who Tracked Billionaire Kidnapper Evans Killed

One of the security operatives who nailed billionaire kidnapper, Onwumadike Chukwudumeme has lost his life in a successful operation in the Niger Delta region.

The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) under the watch of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Abba Kyari at the weekend, lost one of its gallant officers to the cold hands of death.

The gallant officer was one of the leading ‘field detectives’ who tracked and demystified Lagos based billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuadike aka Evans.

It was in the middle of a similar arrest that the suspect pumped bullets into Lanre’s stomach while his colleague got shot in the hand.

Unperturbed by the surprise attack, both the late Sergeant and others chased after the kidnappers and killed the man that fired the killer shots.

The bullets lodged in their bodies were later extracted with medical teams on ground confirming that the injured Policemen were responding to treatment.

But tragedy struck a few days later. It was discovered that Sergeant Lanre who had opened his eyes and exchanged pleasantries with his colleagues, gave up the ghost.

“It is really sad and painful altogether. We have not been able to tell his wife and other family members yet.

This is the risk of the job we are talking about; we put our lives on line for others, yet when it is time for promotion, one thing or the other will happen and the list will be kept in view.

“Look at this now, Sergeant Lanre was one of the men that put his life on the line to arrest Evans and now he is dead. We don’t even know how to break the news to his wife and family. It is painful,” one of his colleagues said at the weekend.

The commander of IRT, ACP Kyari, is said to be in deep pain over Lanre’s death.

A source close to his office that confirmed the tragic exit of Sergeant Lanre said arrangements are already being made for a befitting burial.

#EvansGATE! Lawyer Tells Why He Decided To Defend Him

A Lagos-based lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, who has been hired by billionaire kidnapper Chukwudubem Onwuamadike, a.k.a Evans has justified his decision to defend suspected billionaire criminal in court.

The lawyer has come under public bashing for deciding to stand for Evans.

But, speaking with Sun, Ogungbeje, accused a section of the media, as well as many Nigerians of being ignorant of the law.

He noted that it was settled in law that “no matter the bases of the complaints of the cause of your crime, no matter how unpopular is the cause of your crime, no matter how bad is the cause of your crime, the legal practitioner has a duty to take up the cause, if he’s properly briefed and provided that person represents his client within the bounds of law.

“That is my answer to your question. So, no matter the public opinion, I have the responsibility to take up the matter. We were properly briefed. So, our action is based on law.

“And we want to represent our client within the bounds of law, within the confines of law.

“So, if you for instance, you’re a journalist, if you brief me you don’t want me to take up your cause, because people are saying negative things about you, or because people have condemned you and found you guilty before the media, that I should not take up your case?
“Look, let me tell you right away. We were briefed two weeks ago. And I told them to give me two weeks to think, whether I would take up the brief or not. I did my consultations.

“We consulted even journalists, you can go and make enquiries. I consulted my people. I consulted senior lawyers. So, have I done what is wrong by taking the cause of my clients? Forget what people say in the court of public of opinion.”

EvansGATE- Notorious Kidnapper Evans Explains Why He Didnt Collect Ransom With Bank Account...

Notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudemeje George Onwuamadike, alias Evans, has explained why he never collected ransom from victims, through a bank account.

Evans is renowned for demanding ransom in foreign currencies and has now denied allegations that he received any money in South Africa.

“I don’t give bank account to my victims because it could be traced. Whoever made the allegations that he paid part of his ransom in South Africa isn’t sincere. I would have been arrested and they should bring the account number they paid the money into. The Interpol can trace the account and know the owner.

“I collect my ransom in Nigeria and after collecting it, I also do not travel abroad. I usually ask the people keeping my victims to tell them that I have traveled abroad. I usually call my victims’ relatives with my satellite phones and inform them that I was out of the country.

According to Dailypost “This would make them relax a little and after some time, I will ask my boys to release the victims and drop them where they could locate their people,” he told Saturday Vanguard.

"My charms failed me" Notorious kidnapper Evans

Notorious billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans, said in a recent interview that he would never have been caught, except that his charms failed at the last minute. He made this known yesterday during an interview with newsmen.

He disclosed that he has a native doctor resident in Nnewi, Anambra State who prepares charms for him and gives him so much courage in its efficacy.

According to reports by New Telegraph, Evans revealed that the native doctor is a traditional ruler and is the power behind his criminal activities. He said he had promised him that no policeman born of a woman could ever arrest him. Evans got anxious when policemen stormed the Igando residence where he keeps his victims so he ran to the native doctor for help and the man assured him that he had nothing to fear.
He said:

“The native doctor resides in Nnewi, Anambra State. He is a traditional ruler. After police busted our Igando hideout, he told me to have no fear. He said nothing would happen. He told me that nobody would be able to catch or arrest me. I believed him. I don’t know what went wrong.”

This new revelation comes on the heels of the news that Evans' mother, Mrs Chinwe aka Lady Nwosu, has gone into hiding. New Telegraph spoke with Evans' uncle, Daniel Nwosu, who stands in as the head of the Nwosu family in Akamili village, Umudim, Nnewi. The uncle, who has been bed-ridden for a while, was asked about the whereabouts of his sister, the suspect's mother, but he said he has not heard from her for a very long time. He said that it was only Chinwe’s husband, Stephen Onwuamadike, who would be able to give account of her whereabouts.
Nwosu told New Telegraph:

“I don’t have anything to say because I don’t know anything about the boy (Evans). If I see him now, I may not even recognise him. It’s been a very long time I saw him last. He doesn’t come home or visit his maternal home. So, what can I say about him? You know children have a way with their mothers. It’s possible she knows what Chidumeme (Evans) is into or not. It is the father or mother that can talk about their child. I don’t have anything to say, but I appeal to the authorities to have mercy on him and forgive him. Children of this generation do not listen to advice; if not, why would he delve into such bad business, knowing the implications. It is because of money? See where it has got him.”

Nwosu further disclosed that when he heard the news of Evans’ arrest, he called the suspect’s mother but she neither picked nor called back. Nwosu said that he had not been communicating with Chinwe for a long time because the woman did not reach out to them.
He said:

“I have not spoken with Chidumeme’s mother for a very long time and I don’t know where she is and what is happening around her. She should be up there in her husband’s house, but now I’m hearing she is not there. I don’t understand what is happening. It’s unfortunate and sad. She is just who she is. I have been sick and bed-ridden for a long time. I don’t go out at all hence; I don’t know what is happening around here.”

Evans' father denied the rumours that he divorced Evans' mother and said he could never do that because they took an oath that only death can do them part. He had earlier said that his estranged wife left her matrimonial home without telling anybody where she was going to.
He said:

“I cannot divorce her because we took an oath on our wedding. The oath is that we will be together for better or worse, till death do us part. Death is the only thing that can separate us. I did not also disown Evans as is being circulated. He remains my son. If he is given a second chance and he returns home, I will welcome and accept him. It was sad I didn’t know what he was into; if not, I would have been the one to stop him, by bringing my friends in the force to arrest and torture him to stop.”

A house allegedly built by Evans’ mother for one of her brothers who lives in Port Harcourt was discovered in Nnewi. The maternal home of the kidnap kingpin was discovered to be a quiet middle-class home with a Toyota Rav 4 vehicle parked in a garage.
